Calling Local Media !! New Albany Does Exist.... or Does It ??

Throughout this current campaign season I've noted several indepth Q and A articles in the Tribune with candidates such as the one in yesterdays edition with the Jefferrsonvilles' nominees for Mayor.
http://www.news-tribune.net/election2007/local_story_284110742.html

These articles have included candidates from several of our surrounding communities.

However, unless I missed them, I have yet to see such involving New Albany's candidates. There have been the occasional clips from time to time concerning the hot button issue of a particular day, but nothing that even closely resembles the article I referenced above.

So now I ask the questions. Do the local papers editors or its reporters not feel New Albanys' as newsworthy or important as the rest of our area?

Can they not find the time to track down our nominees and interview them?

Could it be that our Candidates do not feel that it is important for us to go to the polls as informed voters?

Or worse yet, do our Candidates just not have a platform concerning this citys' future to put before us?

Sadly my take is that all of the above are complicit in creating this situation.

So the question here is the same as it is for many of our woes. How do we break this deadlock?

Or better yet, do we really want to?

If past pratices hold then sometime after october 22,2007, we should see Q&A on New Albany's candidates.

Most of the candidates don't want us to know. If they did, would not they say something of relevance? How to break it? If one of the candidates does elucidate their positions, support them. The problem is most don't, so supporting one or the other makes no difference. Take the mayor's race.

Hubbard is running on being honest. Well, if in the past he never said anymore than he is today, no wonder he is considered honest. If you never say anything, you can't be contradicted. He must be following the old saying: It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Now, England. After an announcement or two early in his campaign, what has he said lately? Tell me, show me. What does England want to do? How is he going to do it? His website looks promising but the links to the details don't work.

Remember, in the primary when some candidates started out with websites? Steve Price, quit posting not long after he started and has not done any for the general election. Shirley started and then quit. It obvious they were told by "political experts" to quit writing.

To kind of "steal" a quote from Mr. Price, we want $10 candidates but most of them are worth less than a $1.

Mr. Kozarovich,
Thanks for the heads up. I must admit that I do not visit your website very often. However, I am a subscriber to the Tribune and hope that these responses will appear there also.

The Q&As will indeed appear in the print edition soon (as well as a analysis piece on the candidates records). Space is more limited in print so we post them as early as possible to the Web site. We post extra items to the site all the time and more will be coming before the end of the year. It's worth visiting.

Also, feel free to contact me directly in the future if you have questions. We are a community newspaper and I'll gladly answer questions like this post before any further misconception can occur.

Steve,

My humble apologies for casting dispersions at the Tribune on this matter.

In going back I did indeed find your reports.

The fact that many of the candidates still don't seem to have much in the way of new ideas is not the papers fault. You can only quote their responses.

Thanks for both your timely response and pointing out where to look to find the already published Q&A's.
